Making Big Decisions Intuitively

I was recently asked how I make big decisions. How do I know what to do when I'm faced with a choice that is terrifying and huge and potentially life changing?

What do you do when you're so confused you can barely think? When the pros and cons lists become meaningless?

How do you make the decision when it feels so massive you're absolutely paralyzed?

When this decision paralysis becomes apparent, at that point it's time to turn inward.

I have a process I use when making big decisions. I break the whole situation down and get in touch with my feelings. The whole process may take several days or weeks, or sometimes i can have things figured out in just a few hours.

There are a lot of variables, every situation and every decision is different, but the process ultimately comes down to this:

Trust your intuition. Follow your heart.

How I Simplified My Meal Planning

I'm just going to come right out and say it: Food is hard.

At least for me it is.

It never mattered how much I simplified or how many improvements I made to myself or my life, when it came to food I was always such a mess.

Grocery shopping was a nightmare. I didn't know what to buy, couldn't put together a meal to save my life, and I would typically leave the store with crackers, peanuts, and various cheeses.... and that was it. Well, maybe a vegetable if I was feeling particularly healthy that week.

And don't even get me started on the 2 full months I ate nothing but potato chips, sweettarts and  soda...

When I got married it got even worse. I mean, how am I supposed to feed another person when I can barely feed myself?

When to Let Go of Your Intentions

When I started finding ways to further simplify my life, I began paying attention to the moon phases.

Not for any religious or spiritual reasons, but simply because the idea of living according to monthly cycles makes sense to me.

Sure, I could just set monthly goals.

But how awesome is it to have a constant, nightly reminder of where I'm supposed to be and what I'm supposed to be focusing on.

Seriously, I don't have to set reminders or alarms or calendar events or anything.

There is literally a giant ball of light in the night sky that reminds me where I am in my monthly goals and life cycles.

Why I Let Go of Minimalism

I've been pursuing minimalism for quite some time now. Just about three years!

That is probably the longest I've stuck with anything!

And it has been a wild ride!

My journey started by getting rid of almost 75% of my possessions in what I fondly refer to as the "Great Purge of 2015. I over-hauled my wardrobe and home, and found a clear path to who I am underneath all the stuff.

The Simplicity of Following the Moon

One of my favorite things in the whole world is planning. I love planners and calendars and writing out details and lists for my future self.

And because of that, I love setting goals.

I also love growth.

I love a lot of things, apparently.

Every year I talk about how the New Year is my favorite time. It's a time of new beginnings, letting go of bad habits, adopting new ones, deciding how you'll grow, setting new goals....

Which means it can also be overwhelming.

That's a lot of change all at once.

Trying to figure out what you want for an entire year can be hard. That's a long time. A year is a long cycle. I want shorter ones.

I tried for a long time to just set monthly goals instead, treating each new month as a new start.

That didn't work.

For whatever reason, I just could not wrap my head around it.

But then I found the moon.

Minimalism Gave Me the Life of My Dreams

When I started pursing minimalism almost three years ago, I thought I was just cleaning up my house a bit. Minimalism was just going to be a way to keep myself organized and less stressed.

But that's all that was going to change, right?

I couldn't see then what it really meant to create space in your life. And I didn't understand the beautiful possibilities that open up when you create that space.

I didn't realize minimalism was going to completely change the direction of my life.

Minimalism gave me the life of my dreams.

You Can Shift Your Story to Change Your Life

My life has changed dramatically over the past year.

And I don't just mean that I've grown as a person or anything like that.

I mean, I have grown as a person. I am not at all the same person I was a year ago. Or even six months ago.

But when I say that my life has changed in the past year, I mean almost everything about my life is different. From my job to where I live to what kind of "luck" I have. Everything is different.
