Simplicity

How I Simplified My Meal Planning

I'm just going to come right out and say it: Food is hard.

At least for me it is.

It never mattered how much I simplified or how many improvements I made to myself or my life, when it came to food I was always such a mess.

Grocery shopping was a nightmare. I didn't know what to buy, couldn't put together a meal to save my life, and I would typically leave the store with crackers, peanuts, and various cheeses.... and that was it. Well, maybe a vegetable if I was feeling particularly healthy that week.

And don't even get me started on the 2 full months I ate nothing but potato chips, sweettarts and  soda...

When I got married it got even worse. I mean, how am I supposed to feed another person when I can barely feed myself?

Why I Let Go of Minimalism

I've been pursuing minimalism for quite some time now. Just about three years!

That is probably the longest I've stuck with anything!

And it has been a wild ride!

My journey started by getting rid of almost 75% of my possessions in what I fondly refer to as the "Great Purge of 2015. I over-hauled my wardrobe and home, and found a clear path to who I am underneath all the stuff.

The Simplicity of Following the Moon

One of my favorite things in the whole world is planning. I love planners and calendars and writing out details and lists for my future self.

And because of that, I love setting goals.

I also love growth.

I love a lot of things, apparently.

Every year I talk about how the New Year is my favorite time. It's a time of new beginnings, letting go of bad habits, adopting new ones, deciding how you'll grow, setting new goals....

Which means it can also be overwhelming.

That's a lot of change all at once.

Trying to figure out what you want for an entire year can be hard. That's a long time. A year is a long cycle. I want shorter ones.

I tried for a long time to just set monthly goals instead, treating each new month as a new start.

That didn't work.

For whatever reason, I just could not wrap my head around it.

But then I found the moon.

Minimalism Gave Me the Life of My Dreams

When I started pursing minimalism almost three years ago, I thought I was just cleaning up my house a bit. Minimalism was just going to be a way to keep myself organized and less stressed.

But that's all that was going to change, right?

I couldn't see then what it really meant to create space in your life. And I didn't understand the beautiful possibilities that open up when you create that space.

I didn't realize minimalism was going to completely change the direction of my life.

Minimalism gave me the life of my dreams.

A Resolution for A Year of More

New Years is almost here!

I am so stinking excited. New Years is my favorite time of the year.

I love the possibilities that come with a fresh year. Getting to start over and have a new chance to create a life I'm in love with. There's just something so exciting and magical about getting a new start.

And then there's the resolutions!

I love making New Years resolutions.

Minimalism for the Highly Sensitive

It wasn't until recently that I discovered I'm a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).

Ok, so I knew I was very sensitive, but I didn't know it was a thing. I had always just thought something was wrong with me.

If you're highly sensitive, too, then you know as well as I do that life can get overwhelming fast. But minimalism has been a huge help in my life in keeping down the overwhelm and allowing me to better cope with my sensitivities.

I believe, for the highly sensitive, minimalism is a must. Here's why.

Moving as a Minimalist

Through a series of absolutely unbelievable circumstances, the Mountain Man and I were able to move back to his home town and I was able to put in my two weeks notice at my day job.

When I found out we'd be moving I was so excited and really couldn't wait to get packing.

And I was so sure that this would be the easiest move either of us would ever make, since I've been downsizing for the past two years.

I was so wrong... well, partly.

4 Tips to Help You Achieve Your Goals

One thing you need to know about me: I love setting goals.

Seriously, it might be one of my favorite things.

I love having something to work towards. And when I can cross a bunch of items off a checklist? Oh man, that is the best feeling, I absolutely love it.

Unfortunately, I also love setting big goals. And most of the time, they are completely unrealistic ones.

So, as much as I love setting goals, it always takes a good bit extra work to actually achieve them.
